Intel CPU Sales See Gain for the First Time Since 10th Gen Comet Lake-S Launch (Mindfactory)

Intel’s 10th Gen desktop processor sales seem to be picking up (at least in Germany) for the first time since launch. For the month of July, the number of Intel CPUs sold at Mindfactory was up by 6% since April, with the Core i7-10700K taking the 4th spot on the list of best-selling CPU, right behind the 3700X and 3900X (in terms of revenue).

AMD’s market share fell from 91% in April to 85% in July. This is the first drop in Team Red’s sales in Germany since Intel launched the 10th Gen Comet Lake-S lineup.

The Core i7-10700K gained four ranks, going from #8 to #4, right behind AMD’s Matisse big-guns, the Ryzen 7 3700X and 3900X. It was also the best selling Intel CPU for the month of July, the 1st Comet Lake-S part to assume the spot.

Looking at the sales by CPU architecture (or rather by generation), Comet Lake accounted for around 40% of Intel’s total desktop chip sales at Mindfactory for the month of July. As supply improves and the older 9th Gen lineup is phased out, that figure should cross the 50% mark in the coming months.

Finally, by looking at the CPU sales at the Germany retailer over the last five years, you can see how AMD’s fortunes have reversed in recent years. Back in 2017, AMD sold less than 5,000 units a month, a quarter of Intel’s 15-20K monthly sales figure. The launch of Zen made AMD competitive once again, but Intel still managed to hold the lead a little longer. And then Matisse launched. Now, Intel is in the same position AMD was during the days of Bulldozer. Team Blue sells less than 5K units per month at Mindfactory (Germany) while AMD has managed to cross the 30K monthly figure in the DIY segment. That’s even higher than Intel’s pre-Haswell glory days. It’ll be interesting to see if the situation will change with Rocket Lake and Alder Lake. If not, Intel will be looking at its very own version of Bulldozer.
