Intel Core i9-11900K Only About 10% Faster than the 10900K as Per Official Benchmarks

A few official Intel marketing slides have surfaced (thanks to @HXL on Twitter for sharing), showing very modest gains with the 11th Gen Rocket Lake-S CPUs. The benchmarks compare the Comet Lake-S flagship against its successor, the Core i9-11900K with gaming benchmarks showing a gain of just around 8-14%, with most titles expected to be 5-10% faster. Keep in mind that these are cherry-picked comparisons.

Makes you wonder why Intel even bothered with Rocket Lake when they have Alder Lake-S lined up for a late 2021 launch, with a proper new microarchitecture and process node. The specs of the Core i7 and i9 lineup have also been shared. Interestingly, only the Core i9-11900 series (except the 11900T) features Thermal Velocity Boost while the rest are limited to 5GHz, thanks to Turbo Boost 3.0.

Interestingly, the slide also mentions in fine print that TVB will only work under 70 degrees and if a certain power headroom is available. Considering that an 8-core CPU will rarely run under 70 degrees, even with high-end AIO cooling, this means that the 11900K will be limited to under 5.2GHz in most cases as indicated in the above slide. Similar to Comet Lake-S, only a small percentage of all CPUs shipped will be able to hit the marketed boost clock, with the majority hitting the Turbo Boost 2.0 clocks.
