Intel Continues to Lead Heavily in the Chinese CPU Market

China is one of those markets that’s usually dominated heavily by regional (or in this case, region-specific) products. The consumer processor market isn’t any different. As per data shared by one of the top retailers, Intel continues to lead with a market share of more than 75% in the country. Over the last year, AMD has been gaining ground but the process has been relatively slow compared to the rest of the world.

Since Q1 2020, AMD has gained roughly 5%, although with many fluctuations. In the DIY market, all the three most popular chips are from Team Blue, all of them being part of the F series lineup: The Core i5-10400F, followed by the Core i5-9400F and the Core i5-10600KF. The AMD Ryzen 5 3600 is the most popular Red CPU at #7, followed by the Core i9-10900K at #8 and the Ryzen 7 3700X at #10.

The notebook market seems to favor AMD, however, with the Ryzen 7 4800H at the top, followed by the budget Tiger Lake-U (Core i5-1135G7) part in the second position. The Comet Lake-H based Core i7-10750H comes in third, once again followed by two Renoir SKUs: The Ryzen 7 4800U and the Ryzen 5 4600H.

Overall, the Chinese CPU market seems to favor Intel’s Core i5 parts in the desktop space and the Renoir APUs from AMD’s end in the mobile market. Strangely, although Tiger Lake has a presence, Ice Lake seems to be completely absent from this segment, likely a result of limited supply in the subcontinent.
