Intel’s (Open-Source) graphics driver team just posted the latest update for the Linux Kernel which adds support for the upcoming Alder Lake-P integrated graphics. It appears that the 12th Gen mobile processors will feature the Gen 12 Xe-LP graphics architecture, however, with the Display Engine upgrade to 13 (Display13/Xe_LPD).
This is a bit surprising as all Tiger Lake, Rocket Lake, Alder Lake-S, and DG1 all come with the default Gen 12-based GPU along with the Display 12, making ADL-P the only Intel lineup to feature the upgraded display engine. Some of the primary changes with Display 13 include support for 16K resolution, increased bandwidth requirement when Virtualization is active (VT-d) and certain power efficiency improvements.
