Intel Alder Lake Mobile Processor w/ 6 Golden Cove (Hi-Perf) Cores and 0 Grace Mont Cores (Low-Power) Spotted

The main highlight of Intel’s Alder Lake processors is the use of a hybrid core architecture (big.LITTLE in Arm terms) along with a new process node (10nm ESF). However, it seems like not all SKUs will feature a homogeneous core design. The leaked SiSoft benchmark of the hex-core sample below is one such example:

Now, it’s hard to say whether this is a mobile processor or a desktop SKU, but the fact that the integrated graphics are called Alder Lake Mobile Graphics and the accompanying discrete graphics adapter is also a mobile GPU makes it likely that we’re looking at a mobile chip. However, from what we know about the Alder Lake-P lineup, there isn’t a single SKU with just six Golden Cove cores:

The desktop lineup, however, does have hex-core models in the form of the lower-end Core i3 chips (Source):

  • Core i9: 8 GC + 8GM cores
  • Core i7/Core i5: 6-8 GC + 0-8GM
  • Core i3: 4-6GC + 0GM (no low-power cores)

At the same time, it’s important to remember that these are all unofficial estimates and shouldn’t be taken as the final specifications, and therefore can change. In terms of the cache configuration, we’re looking at 18MB of L3 cache and 1.25MB of L2 cache per core resulting in a total of 7.5MB for the entire CPU. This is a fair bit higher than Rocket Lake which comes with 12MB of L3 cache for hex-core parts and just 256K of L3 per core. The iGPU features 12CUs or 96 EUs, once again indicating that we’re looking at a mobile SoC, as the desktop parts aren’t going to feature that many shaders.
