Intel 14th Gen Meteor Lake CPUs Allegedly Getting AVX512 Support

After a two-generation-long hiatus from the client market, Intel’s 14th Gen Meteor Lake processors will allegedly support AVX512 instructions. According to multiple reputed sources, the chipmaker is working to re-enable the 512-bit wide floating-point format on its client microarchitectures. Sapphire Rapids-SP, the Data Center counterpart of Alder Lake and Raptor Lake, already supports AVX512.

On a native level, the Golden Cove core powering these lineups does support AVX512 but is fused off on a hardware level. On Alder and Raptor Lake, it has been disabled to reduce power consumption and distinguish the higher-end SKUs from the entry-level Xeon offerings. At launch, the former supported AVX512 with the E-cores turned off.

Crestmont, the E-cores powering the 14th Gen Meteor Lake CPUs won’t get AV512 support and will likely have to be disabled to take advantage of the wider instructions. Meteor Lake is designed for low-power devices with a 4nm (Intel 4) compute die, allowing for lower power draws under sustained AVX512 workloads.
