Intel 10th Gen Comet Lake-S Desktop CPU Prices Leaked By Canadian Retailer: Almost the Same as 9th Gen

Intel’s 10th Gen Comet Lake-S desktop processors are expected to be announced by the end of the month, followed by a release in May. However, you won’t have to wait that long to know the prices the new chips. A Canadian retailer has posted the listings of three of the Comet Lake-S parts, namely the Core i7-10700, the 10700K and the Core i9-10900:

The octa-core i7-10700 and the 10700K are priced at $506 and $585, respectively, while the 10-core i9-10900 will seemingly cost $679. Comparing these with the prices of the existing 9th Gen parts on the same store, we can see that they’re just a few dozen bucks pricier.

This is encouraging news. Intel’s 10th Gen desktop processors are once again based on the same 14nm Skylake core as Coffee Lake. The main addition is the inclusion of hyperthreading across the board along with markedly higher clocks.

The Core i7-10700K is expected to have a thermal velocity boost of 5.1GHz while the flagship Core i9-10900K is rumored to have a potential boost of 5.3GHz, with an all-core boost of 4.8GHz. This will, however, result in power-hungry chips, requiring high-end cooling solutions.

Going by this price estimation, the Core i7-10700K should be priced at around $399 and the Core i9-10900K will most likely cost $549. While they will almost definitely be faster than the Ryzen 3000 competition in gaming, AMD’s chips will continue to lead in multi-threaded workloads like CC.

That’s not all though. Both Intel and AMD are expected to launch new lineups by the end of the year. Team Red has already confirmed that the Ryzen 4000 “Vermeer” chips will land at the end of 2020, however, Intel has yet to say anything about Rocket Lake-S.
