Highpoint has released the PCIe 4.0 version of its NVMe RAID controller, the SSD7540 with speeds as high as 28GB/s and a total storage capacity of 64TB across eight ports. The Highpoint SSD7540 NVMe RAID controller supports both PCIe 3.0 and 4.0 SSDs (up to 8 drives) with each having a total capacity of up to 8TB, resulting in a total speed of 28GB/s. Plugging in 8x 8TB NVMe drives allows for a total of 64TB of storage, with the same 28GB/s sequential transfer speed.

There is of course a catch. This controller costs a whopping $999, the same as a Radeon RX 6900XT or two Ryzen 7 5800XTs. You can buy around five 1TB PCIe 4.0 drives for a total of 5TB of NAND storage.

Realistically speaking, you don’t even need 28GB/s, or 64TB of storage, NAND, or magnetic. If you could buy it at practical prices, then it would be an amazing product, but at this price point, it’s basically limited to workstations and servers.
