The discrete graphics card market continued with its mediocre performance in the last quarter of 2021. Overall, AMD regained some lost market, with Intel and NVIDIA trading a few points in the negative. With iGPUs included, Intel accounted for 62% of the graphics market, down by 0.1% QoQ. NVIDIA and AMD split the remaining 38% userbase equally, with NVIDIA losing 0.60%, and AMD gaining 0.7 points.
The overall GPU shipments increased by approximately 1% QoQ, with NVIDIA losing 2.2%, and Intel and AMD gaining 0.8%, and 4.7%, respectively. The GPU attach rate for all three markets, including iGPU, dGPU, desktop, notebook, and workstations was largely flat, with a decrement of 3.8% QoQ.
Desktop dGPUs fared better with an increase of 3% in shipments QoQ. NVIDIA’s market share fell by two points, from 83% to 81%. AMD, on the other hand, gained 2 points, marking its highest shipments in over a year. The Red Team went from 18% in Q4 2020 to 17% in Q3 2021, to 19% in Q4 2021.
