Graphics Card Memory (GDDR6) Expected to Rise by 8-13% in Q3 2021

Graphics card prices have started to stabilize with falling Ethereum and Bitcoin prices, but it seems like there’s another factor that gamers need to look out for: rising memory prices. According to analysts, the bulk of graphics memory (which is GDDR6 for both the Radeon RX 5000, 6000, and the NVIDIA RTX 20 and 30 series) is manufactured by Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron.

On account of increased demand, all three vendors are planning to increase GDDR6 prices by 8-13% in the third quarter of 2021, on a monthly basis. Computer memory has been gaining consistently over the last few months, but neither DDR4 PC nor server memory appears to be as far behind demand as GDDR6 supply.

While PC memory (DDR4) is expected to increase in price by 3-8% in the coming quarter, server memory with ECC is speculated to rise by 5-10% in value. However, GDDR6 memory used in graphics cards is slated to see the steepest hike in prices, by around 8-13%.
