According to the latest report from JPR, PC GPUs reached a record figure of 119 million units in the first quarter of 2021, an increase of 38.74% compared to the same quarter last year. In the next five years, discrete GPUs are expected to power more than a quarter of all PCs. As already reported earlier, AMD’s overall graphics market share dropped by -0.12% while Intel saw a drop of -0.5%. NVIDIA was the only vendor to gain market share (by 0.62%) in the first quarter of 2021 (compared to the same quarter last year).
The overall GPU unit shipments fell by -0.3% compared to the last quarter, with AMD and Intel both seeing a drop of -1.0% each, and NVIDIA gaining 3.9%. The overall presence of GPUs including both integrated and discrete graphics solutions saw an increase of 117% YoY and just 4% compared to the last quarter. Desktop graphics cards (AIB discrete solutions) increased by 7% compared to the last quarter.
However, looking at the purely discrete GPU market, AMD actually gained one point compared to the last quarter, but a rather lofty drop of 6% compared to the same quarter last year. NVIDIA, on the other hand, lost one point compared to the last quarter and gained 6% YoY, pushing its dGPU market share over 80%.
