EA’s Frostbite Engine, Borderlands 3, Far Cry 6, Dota 2, RE: Village & More to Get AMD FSR

According to insiders, AMD’s Super Resolution upsampling tech will be supported by up to twelve games in the coming months. Some titles worth mentioning include Far Cry 6, Borderlands 3, Dota 2, Anno 1800, Resident Evil: Village, Godfall, The Riftbreaker, Dirt 5, and Farming Simulator. Additionally, EA’s Frostbite engine which is used for most of the publisher’s games including FIFA, Mass Effect: Andromeda, Dragon Age: Inquisition, Battlefield, NFS, Madden, etc will also be supporting FSR.

Please note that these are the games that will get FSR in the near future, and not 22nd itself

It’s worth noting that both Unity and Unreal Engine 4/5 have native DLSS 2.0 integration, but we’re yet to see a Frostbite game with the same. Looking at the original shots from AMD that compare FSR to native resolution, it’s clear that in terms of quality this isn’t a DLSS competitor. Rather, we’re looking at a much more flexible, open-source solution that will be adopted across various platforms (PC, Xbox, and perhaps, PS5 too).

In comparison, DLSS which has been out for several years now has only recently started gaining popularity. If AMD can provide a cross-platform, cross-vendor upscaling technique that scales well and sees widespread adoption, they should have an easier time tackling DLSS in the future. Once the basics are in place, the quality aspect can be worked upon. They can even shift from FSR being a spatial (same-frame) upsampling technique to a more advanced temporal and neural network-based solution.
