Don’t Expect Ryzen 4000 Laptops with High-end GPUs Anytime Soon

It seems like we won’t be getting any AMD Ryzen 4000 based laptops with high-end GPUs in the near future. This has already been confirmed by multiple OEMs, and now AMD’s Frank Azor has validated the claim as well. According to the Alienware founder, although we’ll be seeing many more Renoir laptops in the coming months, there won’t be any options with powerful graphics solutions, say the RTX Super mobile GPUs.

Replying to Tech Deals in a Tweet, Azor said to expect many more Ryzen powered laptops this month and the next. However, when asked about the possibility of Renoir laptops with higher-end discrete graphics cards such as the RTX 2070 and above, the Azor denied the possibility of any near-term launch. This means we won’t be seeing a Ryzen 7 4800H or 4900H based notebook paired with an NVIDIA RTX Super GPU anytime in Q2 or Q3. Relevant models will hopefully start popping up by the end of 2020.

AMD Ryzen 4000 Powered Acer 5 Laptop Limited to GTX 1660 Ti on the GPU, Intel Variant Features RTX 2060

We tried asking ASUS about this particular issue, but the company refused to comment on it.

We’ve already covered this issue multiple times in the past. Acer and ASUS are liming their Renoir offerings to an RTX 2060 and a GTX 1660 Ti, respectively, while many OEMs are also pairing APUs with mediocre GPUs such as the NVIDIA MX350. This is despite the fact that the iGPU featured on the Ryzen 4000 parts are on-par or faster than most lower-end dGPUs.
