Detroit: Become Human is Still Unplayable on NVIDIA GPUs More than a Year After Launch

Many of Quantic Dream’s PlayStation exclusives were brought to the PC market thanks to a deal with the Epic Game Store, however, many of these games (if you can call them that) are still plagued by technical issues including frequent crashes and other performance issues. The most noteworthy title is Detroit: Become Human which is still unplayable on the majority of GeForce systems.

We tested the game on a GeForce RTX 2080 Ti as well as an RTX 2080 Super and it kept crashing either at the loading screen or just a few minutes after loading, essentially rendering it unplayable. The RTX 30 series fares somewhat better, but there are still plenty of crashes (freezing followed by a crash) every now and then. It is, however, “playable”.

We also tested the Radeon RX 6800 and 6900 XT, and these cards ran the game without a crash for several hours. I understand that Detroit and the rest of QD’s titles (they’re not games) were AMD sponsored but that doesn’t mean that the game will be unplayable on GPUs that are used by the bulk of PC gamers. NVIDIA has plenty of resources to spare even if it’s on an AMD partner title. We hope the company looks into this as soon as possible.
