Colorful Unveils AMD B550 Motherboards for Under $130

In an unexpected announcement, Colorful has joined the league of AMD’s motherboard manufacturers with a couple of new budget B550 boards. Unlike most other B550 motherboards, all of Colorful’s offerings are priced under the $130 mark.

Two of these models cost between $120-130, namely the CVN B550M GAMING FROZEN V14 and the CVN B550M GAMING PRO V14. Both of these come with the bare basics of the B550 platform, namely the Realtek ALC892 HD onboard audio, 1x PCIe 4.0 x16 slot, 1x PCIe 3.0 x4, 2x M.2 slots (only one being PCIe Gen 4 capable) and Realtek’s Gigabit Ethernet Controller. Both boards have a micro-ATX form factor and the former comes with active chipset cooling.

Despite having different appearances, the two boards come with the same feature set. Other than the ones mentioned above, you get a PCIe 3.0 x1 slot, four SATA slots with support for RAID and up to 128GB of DDR4-4000 memory across four DIMMs.

Colorful’s official specs claim that its B550 boards come with a 10-phase VRM, but it’s almost certainly going to be a 5-phase using doublers. Lastly, coming to the I/O, you get three USB 3.2 Gen 1 (Type-A), one USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C, and two USB2.0 ports.

The board also appears to support Surround 7.1 audio across six audio jacks via the Realtek ALC892 audio chip and as a Realtek 8111H Gigabit controller for connectivity.

The Colorful B550M gaming PRO is priced at $121 while the B550M Gaming Frozen is slightly pricier at $126. There’s no word on the exact pricing of the third model, the Battle-AX B550M-HD PRO v14, but looking at the cut-down specs, it’ll likely cost under $100. You get a 6-phase VRM and support for up to 64GB of DDR4-3200 memory across two DIMMs. The rest of the specs are more or less the same.

As of now, there’s no word on availability or the launch dates.
