Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Confirmed to Run at 4K@30 on the Xbox Series X by Ubisoft

Last week saw a bunch of upcoming games get showcased as part of the Inside Xbox episode, focusing solely on Microsoft’s Xbox Series X next-generation console. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla was a significant showcase owing to its popularity, though it was brief and sparked concerns about the gameplay elements not being shown much.

Regardless, it’s a game focused on the next-gen hardware specifications and definitely looks great. Viewers, however, noticed the lack of ray tracing or 60 FPS tags on the official page of Assassin’s Creed on the Xbox website.

This means that even the upcoming Xbox Series X and PS5 consoles will be limited to 4K 30 FPS in the most taxing games. Ray-traced games will also almost certainly be locked to 30 FPS at 4K.

The Xbox Series X will be packing a 12 TFLOPs GPU, which has been deemed to be ‘the most powerful console ever created’ by Microsoft, not a false statement by any means, but still enough to run this particular game at 4K@60 FPS.

This has been confirmed by the Portuguese branch of Eurogamer who reached out to Ubisoft and managed to get an official confirmation –

Ubisoft has always been committed to exploring new technologies, taking advantage of the capabilities of new consoles to deliver the most immersive experience possible, which is why we are excited to be collaborating with Microsoft to bring Assassin’s Creed Valhalla to the Xbox Series X.

Currently, we can guarantee that Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will run at least 30 FPS. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will benefit from faster loading times, allowing players to immerse themselves in history and the world without friction. Finally, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will benefit of improved graphics made possible by the Xbox Series X, and we can’t wait to see the beautiful world we’re creating in stunning 4K resolution

We will have a lot more to show you about Assassin’s Creed Valhalla in the near future, so stay tuned for more information soon!

Not to fret though, the current statement seems to indicate a potential 60 FPS mode, albeit with lower resolution or graphical settings. This could also simply include an unlocked frame rate option, which allows for a Variable Refresh Rate(VRR), as the Xbox Series X has been confirmed to support that feature. VRR helps maintain image fidelity even with varying sync rates between the output and the monitor and requires a VRR enabled TV/Display, which is getting pretty popular in the market now.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla comes out later this year on PC, Xbox and Playstation.
