ASRock A320 Gets Ryzen 5000 & Renoir Support via Unofficial BIOS; Renoir too

ASRock’s A320 motherboard has received support for the newly launched Ryzen 5000 CPUs as well as the Renoir APUs, courtesy of an unofficial BIOS posted to the Chiphell forums.

Furthermore, both the lineups support an Infinity Clock and memory of up to 2,000MHz+ on the A320 board in a 1:1 ratio, maximization the memory bandwidth and reducing the latency.

The poster tested the top-end Ryzen 9 5950X using the same BIOS on his ASRock A320 and everything worked properly. The same was reported for the Ryzen 7 PRO 4750 which ran at a memory speed of 4333MT/s.

It’s unclear how much performance will suffer on using a monster 16-core chip on a measly A320 board due to paltry VRMs and power phases, but it should be a notch below that reported by B550/X570 users. Mid-range chips such as the Ryzen 5 5600X, on the other hand, should work well with these boards (read our review here).

Interestingly, there are no caveats with this “unofficial” BIOS. AMD plans to offer Zen 3 support on the older 400 series boards in January, but there’s a catch. It’ll be a one-way BIOS flash (beta BIOS), meaning you won’t be able to flash back to the older BIOS. You’ll likely lose compatibility for some of the older Ryzen lineups, especially the APUs. On top of this, you’ll also have to verify that you own a Ryzen 5000 CPU to receive the beta BIOS. I have a feeling we’ll be seeing plenty of “unofficial” BIOS versions before AMD actually gets to its beta BIOS program for the B450/X470 motherboards.
