AMD’s Ryzen 7 5800X processor is now available for $400 (MSRP: $450) across most online retailers in the US. It’s the first Ryzen 5000 SKU to see a permanent drop in its market price, most likely due to aggressive pricing from Intel. Even after having its price reduced by $50, the Ryzen 7 5800X is presently selling a tad bit higher than the competing Core i7-11700K.
The Core i7-11700K which debuted for $459 quickly saw its retail price drop to under $400 due to lackluster performance and lower efficiency (compared to its Ryzen counterpart). It’s worthwhile to note that the Core i7-10700K which doesn’t perform much worse than the 11700K is presently priced at just over $300, the same as the Ryzen 5 5600X. This makes it an excellent budget CPU if you already have an LGA1200 board.
Meanwhile, the Ryzen 9 SKUs continue to sell well over the retail MSRPs, with the 5900X being priced at $690 and the 5950X going for nearly $1,000 across both Amazon and Newegg. The Ryzen 5 5600X, on the other hand, is still priced at its launch price of $299, although you can only backorder it at the moment.
Interestingly, Newegg which is known for its aggressive pricing has fallen behind Amazon when it comes to offering the best CPU prices. At the moment, all Ryzen 5000 SKUs are slightly cheaper at Amazon while also supporting EMI and free-shipping.
