AMD’s Ryzen 4000 Renoir APU Graphics Seemingly Beats Intel’s 11th Gen Tiger Lake Xe GPU

AMD is expected to launch its 7nm Zen 2 based Renoir APUs for notebooks at CES next week (along with a bunch of other surprises). These laptops will be powered by the Ryzen 4000 APU lineup featuring up to a Vega 16 GPU alongside the Zen 2 cores. This will be the most powerful Vega iGPU from AMD and can be seen as a response to the Gen11 graphics that launched with Ice Lake. Apparently, they gave the Vega 10 GPU quite the beating. It’s only fair that AMD obliges with something more potent.

Here, we’ve got the UserBenchmark comparing the Intel UHD Gen12 LP (Low power refers to iGPU) to the Radeon Vega 16 featured on the Renoir parts. In this test, the latter marks a clear victory over the 11th Gen Tiger Lake Xe GPU, but it’s not clear which versions of each family we’re comparing. It could be a lower-end Gen 12 GPU and the top-end Vega 16 GPU, or the other way around.

What’s certain is that integrated graphics and APUs, in general, are going to get a lot faster (and competitive) in 2020. We’ll keep you posted when we hear more. AMD is expected to launch the Ryzen 4000 “Renoir” APUs next week at CES, along with the Radeon RX 5600 XT, the 64 Core Threadripper 3990X and maybe even the next-gen Zen 3 microarchitecture.
