AMD’s Ryzen 4000 Powered Laptops Officially Launched; Pre-Orders Set to Go Live Shortly

It seems that AMD’s Ryzen 4000 laptops will finally hit the market later today after multiple rounds of speculations. As per a report from Videocardz, pre-orders should go live today itself, albeit the actual shipping dates will probably be delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

AMD has also added the top-end Ryzen 9 4900H and 4900HS SKUs to its slides that feature a higher boost clock and beefed up integrated graphics. While the former has a considerably increased base and boost clocks over the 4800H, the latter only differs by 100MHz in both metrics. Both feature an 8CU iGPU running at 1750MHz. The Ryzen 9 powered notebooks are expected to ship in Spring 2020, however, considering the situation it’ll most likely get pushed to Q3.

As per AMD, the new Ryzen 4000 APUs offer a 25% IPC gain over the preceding Ryzen 3000 parts, 20% lower SoC power and twice as many transistors while reducing the die size by 25%. This was made possible by TSMC’s cutting-edge 7nm FF node. The integrated graphics are also getting a hefty boost thanks to the refined process, with each CU being up to 70% faster than the older 12nm Vega GPUs.

Unlike the desktop Ryzen CPUs, the Renoir APUs feature a single chiplet, essentially making it a monolithic design. This was done to bolster the power efficiency and battery life. The Infinity Fabric has also been improved to support double the bus width from graphics to fabric.

As far as the memory controller is concerned, Renoir supports DDR4 3200 or LPDDR4x 4266. There are two controllers with each capable of running at the standard 64-bit per channel or 32-bit x2 for LPDDR4.

Lastly, the PCIe lane count has also been increased by four, improving support for NVMe based drives, WiFi 6, 5G and some additional USB ports.
