Before launching the next-gen Radeon RX 7000 GPUs, AMD plans on releasing a mid-generation refresh in the form of the Radeon RX 69×0 series. A soft refresh of the Navi 21 and Navi 22 offerings, these GPUs will essentially combine a higher clocked GPU core with faster 18Gbps memory dies. The RDNA 2 refresh will retain the N7/7nm node, and launch sometime in the second quarter of 2022.
According to Greymon55, the flagship Radeon RX 6950X will have a boost clock of over 2.5GHz, making it one of the first high-end consumer graphics cards to cross that mark. For reference, the Radeon RX 6900 XT has a boost clock of 2,250MHz, with the liquid-cooled variants, most notably the ASUS ROG STRIX LC RX 6900 XT Gaming Top hitting 2,525MHz under loads.
This increase in operating clocks will, of course, come at a cost: a higher TDP of around 350W under load. Depending on how far the boost clocks are pushed, you can expect a final FP32 compute rating of close to 30 TFLOPs, over 5 TFLOPs over the vanilla 6900 XT. I expect a boost of 2.8-2.9GHz which is very manageable considering how mature TSMC’s 7nm is, and how far overclockers have already pushed the Navi 31 die. (hotcanadianpharmacy.com)
