AMD’s Radeon RX 6950 XT is Faster than NVIDIA’s RTX 3090 Ti in Synth Benchmarks

AMD is going to launch its RDNA 2 refresh next week with beefed-up clocks and faster memory. Essentially the equivalent of NVIDIA’s Super refresh with much small performance increments, these parts will help consolidate Team Red’s position in the high-end graphics card market. Going by figures unearthed by WCCFTech, the Radeon RX 6×50 XT parts will be extremely competitive against NVIDIA’s RTX 30 series GPUs (in non-RT workloads).

The outlet has shared 3DMark benchmarks of the three upcoming RDNA 2 SKUs and they are all quite impressive. The Radeon RX 6950 XT manages to beat the recently launched GeForce RTX 3090 Ti for half the price (and a much lower TGP) in TimeSpy. Even with a lofty overclock of 2200 MHz (GPU core) and 23.5 Gbps (memory), the latter is only a meager 1% faster. The new Radeon flagship should have no difficulty overcoming it with some mediocre one-click overclocking.

Keep in mind, however, that TimeSpy, like most synthetic benchmarks, doesn’t always represent real-world gaming performance. It’s a highly optimized scripted sequence that fails to represent less-than-ideal scenarios. Even with a lofty overclock of 2200 MHz (GPU core) and 23.5 Gbps (memory), the latter is only a meager 1% faster.

The Radeon RX 6950 XT continues its number-crunching performance in Fire Strike but falls short of the RTX 3090 Ti in Port Royal on account of its lackluster ray-tracing capabilities.

Here, the Radeon RX 6950 XT fails to match up to even the RTX 3080. The RX 6750 XT also disappoints being just as fast as the 3.5-year-old RTX 2080 in the ray-traced test. The 6650 XT doesn’t do any better, barely beating the RTX 3050 all the while being an RTX 3060 Ti rival.
