The GPU market continues to grow at a rapid pace, reaching an overall attach rate (integrated and discrete) of 129% to PCs for the first quarter of 2022, marking an increase of 5% quarter-over-quarter. Overall GPU unit shipments dropped by -6.2% from the last quarter, with AMD and NVIDIA parts seeing a modest drop of -1.5% and -3.2%, respectively. Intel’s shipments (iGPUs) decreased by -8.7%.
AMD’s overall market share increased by 0.7% over the previous quarter, NVIDIA’s by 1.69% while Intel’s fell by -2.4%. These include the iGPU figures which mask Team Red’s reduced dGPU share this quarter.
Looking purely at the dGPU market, NVIDIA’s market share remained unchanged from the previous quarter while AMD’s dropped by one point, a decrease of 2% year-over-year. JPR predicts that GPUs will grow at a compounded rate of 6.4% over the next five years, reaching a user base of 3.3 million units by 2027. Discrete GPUs are expected to capture 46% of the overall GPU market by then.
