AMD Ryzen 9 5900X Beats the Ryzen 9 3950X in AVX2 SiSoft Benchmarks

As per the latest SiSoft benchmarks shared by @apisak on Twitter, the 12-core Ryzen 9 5900X is ahead of the 16-core Ryzen 9 3950X in AVX2 based multi-media benchmarks, despite featuring a lower core count.

This is likely the result of Zen 3’s enhanced floating-point capabilities. Not only is the 3950X clocked higher in this benchmark by nearly 1GHz, but it also packs eight threads more than the 5900X. This is one of the many examples where we’ll see the 19% IPC uplift of Zen 3 in action.

The increase in integer workloads is relatively tamer, but worthwhile all the same. The Ryzen 9 5900X is around 10-12% than an overclocked Ryzen 9 3900X in the processor arithmetic benchmark. Expect gains close to 15% with the clocks equalized.

AMD’s Ryzen 5000 processors are set to launch on the 5th of November. Keep a look out for our review of the new Zen 3 chips.
