The earlier rumors of AMD’s next-gen Ryzen 7000 processors being delayed are turning out to be true. As per nApoleon, an editor and reviewer over at the Chiphell forums, the launch of the Zen 4 chips has been postponed due to buggy firmware (BIOS). With AM5, Team Red is writing its AGESA microcode from scratch and it’ll take board partners a while to iron out all the intricacies.
Reviewers and content creators have been asked to sign a new NDA to factor in the delay and board partners are probably glad as this gives them more time to fix (some) of the bugs. AMD plans to unveil the Ryzen 7000 CPUs on the 29th of August during an online webstream on its YouTube channel. Keep in mind that this will only be a reveal (specifications, prices, and official performance figures) rather than a hard launch.
The processors themselves will probably go on sale on the 27th of September as reported by WCCFTech the other day. The updated release date coincides with Intel’s Raptor Lake reveal which is definitely going to make things interesting.
