The Ryzen 7000X3D lineup offers the best gaming performance for anyone in the market for a CPU between $400 and $700. With a starting price tag of $449, the V-Cache chips beat their more expensive Intel rivals across the stack. The Zen 4 3D stack consists of three SKUs, the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, Ryzen 9 7900X3D, and Ryzen 9 79050X3D. All three have one thing in common: a single 7nm L3 cache die 3D stacked atop one of the CCDs.

AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D vs Ryzen 9 7950X3D Gaming Benchmarks

Starting with Assassins Creed: Valhalla, we see the Ryzen 9 7950X3D edge past the Ryzen 7 7800X3D. The deltas are within the margin of error, and I wouldn’t be surprised if 1080p results in a tie. Crysis Remastered doesn’t like the 16-core Ryzen 9 parts as the 7800X3D takes a hefty lead over its pricier rivals. Interestingly, the frametimes of the two chips were very similar, offering smooth performance across the board.

Cyberpunk 2077 and Dying Light 2 are the ray-tracing heavyweights from our suite. The former is less fond of the X3D chips. At 720p Ultra (without ray tracing), the Ryzen 7 7800X3D and the Ryzen 9 7950X3D perform (nearly) the same as the 7950X. Enabling ray-tracing tips the scales in favor of the former. Regardless, the deltas between the 7800X3D and 7950X3D remain nominal (>7%).

Dying Light 2 loves the extra L3 cache, granting the 7950X3D a lead of nearly 50% over the 7950X. In rasterization, it’s more than 20% faster than the 7800X3D but loses its lead when ray-traced is enabled. F1 2022 exhibits similar behavior, conferring the Ryzen 7 7800X3D with a lead of ~10% in rasterization and ray-tracing.

Hitman 3 and the Ryzen 7 7800X3D are the best of friends. The octa-core 7800X3D beats the 7950X3D by a massive 60-65% in rasterization and ray tracing. Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition performs the same across all three chips, barring a minor lead for the 7800X3D.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider, again, sees the Ryzen 7 7800X3D take a slim lead over the 7950X3D, both with and without ray-tracing. On the other hand, Callisto Protocol doesn’t see much of an uplift with the X3D CPUs. The Ryzen 9 7950X3D is a smidge faster than the 7800X3D.

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands prefers the Ryzen 7 7800X3D over the 7950X3D. The 7800X3D is ~12% faster than its Ryzen 9 sibling in this game.
