AMD Ryzen 7 7800X May Feature 12 Cores or 64MB+ of 3D V-Cache But Likely to Cost More than the 5800X [Report]

AMD is set to offer increased core counts across its upcoming midrange offerings to battle Intel’s rival hybrid core processors. According to Greymon55, the Ryzen 7 7800X should feature 10 to 12 cores or 64-96MB of 3D stacked V-Cache to remain competitive in the sub-$500 market. The 12th Gen Intel Core i7-12700K already features 12 cores (8P+4E) and 20 threads, and its successor is set to double the E-core count to 8 (16 in total).

It’s possible that the Ryzen 5 7600X will also get a higher core count or a 3D stacked L3 die to cope with the Core i5-12600K (6P+4E) and the soon-to-be-released Core i5-13600K (6P+8E). Both these SKUs will be priced around the $300 mark and fight to be the bestseller across most markets. The top-end Ryzen 9 parts will come with higher boost clocks, higher TDPs, and leadership gaming performance, although at a price.

AMD is set to announce the Ryzen 7000 processors later this month, followed by the hard launch in September. According to official figures, the Zen 4 core architecture will offer an IPC boost of 8-10% and boost clocks of over 5.5GHz courtesy of TSMC’s N5 process. The core counts will top out at 16 with the Ryzen 9 7950X.
