AMD Ryzen 5 5600X and 5800X w/ 2 CCDs Being Sold, Identical to the Ryzen 9 5900X/5950X

The creator of CTR (ClockTuner) for the Ryzen processors, Yuri, otherwise known by his alias of 1usmus has made some interesting observations while testing the Ryzen 5 and Ryzen 7 processors.

As you can see in the above picture, the Ryzen 5 5600X which is a hex-core processor should only include a single eight-core CCX/CCD, but it has two which is usually only the case with the Ryzen 9 5900X or the 5950X. Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is whether you can activate the extra CCD.

The answer to that is an unfortunate, “We don’t know”. The reason being that while the additional CCD is discovered by the monitoring tools, it mostly stays in the “Deep Sleep” or parked state which is what happens when the CPU cores are in the lowest power state. However, as per observations, these “inactive CCD” shows random signs of life with the clock speed on the cores spiking to 550MHz at times.

That still doesn’t mean that you’ll be able to activate these “free” cores, as they are either the result of a failed Ryzen 9 SKU (unable to hit the higher boost clock) or simply the outcome of one or multiple cores on the CCD being out of spec.

In any case, if anyone discovers how to activate the second CCD, we’ll be sure to share it as a separate post.
