AMD Ryzen 4000 Powered Acer 5 Laptop Limited to GTX 1660 Ti on the GPU, Intel Variant Features RTX 2060

It looks like Acer is another OEM offering AMD’s Renoir APUs with relatively inferior graphics options. The newly launched Acer 5 (2020) will include AMD’s Ryzen 4000 APUs (up to the 4800H), but on the GPU side, you’ll be limited to the GTX 1660 Ti. Intel’s 10th Gen Comet Lake-H (up to Core i7-10750H) based laptops, however, will come with discrete GPU options up to an RTX 2060. (viagra)

Other than the GPU, the rest of the specs are nearly identical. Both the Intel and AMD variants come with a 15″ 1080p 144Hz IPS display and up to 32GB of DDR4 memory across two memory DIMMs. As far as storage is concerned, you get a 1TB NVMe based SSD drive on both variants.

The Acer Nitro 5 (2020) comes with the Intel WiFi 6 AX201 and Killer Ethernet E2600 for connectivity and multiple I/O options, including USB 3.0. Both the AMD and Intel models are expected to be priced at EUR 899. There’ll be another Intel variant with the same specs and a larger screen size of 17.3″ (expected price: EUR 999). The new laptops are expected to land sometime in June.

Acer isn’t the only laptop-maker pairing Intel devices with higher-end GPUs, ASUS, Lenovo, and Dell are all resorting to the same practice. While we can’t say for certain whether this is the result of a deal or not, it most definitely sounds fishy.
