AMD Ryzen 4000 APUs “Renoir” Rumored to Launch at CES 2020

According to the latest batch of rumors, AMD will launch the Ryzen 4000 APU lineup dubbed “Renoir” at CES 2020. While the CPU cores will be based on the 7nm Zen 2 design, the Vega graphics processor will most likely be retained rather than the newer Navi.

Although the initial announcement will come in January 2020, the mass production of the Ryzen 4000 APUs is expected to get underway by the third quarter. The reason being the presence of a crap-ton of Picasso products in both the desktop and mobile markets.

The Ryzen 3000 APUs (otherwise known as Picasso) power some of the most competitive gaming laptops in the market. Paired with NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 16 series and the RTX 2060, these chips have brought down the prices of 1440p gaming laptops to below 1 lac (or $1,000 in the US).

The best example is ASUS’ TUF Gaming lineup. The FX505DT packs a Ryzen 5-3550H (a quad-core APU with a Vega iGPU) and a GeForce GTX 1650 and costs just 56K. Traditionally Intel-powered laptops with this much firepower cost as much as 70K INR. The coming to Picasso to gaming laptops has made many gamers incredibly happy.

When Renoir will actually hit retail isn’t confirmed yet. It could be along with the Ryzen 4000 CPUs based on the 7nm+ node in 2020 H2 or before them. What we do know however is that an announcement is expected to come as soon as Q1 2020.

You can expect quad-core Zen 2 cores paired with up to 15 Vega Compute Units. That’s the highest number of CUs ever in an AMD APU. We’ll keep you updated as we hear more.
