AMD Ryzen 3 3100 and 3300X Launched: Beating Intel’s Core i5-9400F in Gaming

AMD’s lower 3rd Gen Ryzen parts are now available for purchase at all leading retailers worldwide. Although, we don’t have a review ready at the moment, we are going to share the reference benchmarks shared by AMD.

As per the company’s estimates, the Ryzen 3 3100 is on-par or faster than the Intel Core i3-9100 in gaming while the Ryzen 3 3300X is well ahead of not only the 9100 but also the Core i5-9400 in most gaming workloads:

As you can see, while the 3100 and 9100 fight it out at the bottom of the barrel, the 3300X mostly competes with the lower-end Core i5s, and quite well at that too. Looking at the above benchmarks, the Ryzen 3 3300X appears to be the best gaming CPU in the sub-$130 markets.

Looking at the above benchmarks, the Ryzen 3 3300X appears to be the best gaming CPU in the sub-$130 markets.

Now, moving over to content creation and productivity tests, where the Ryzen parts have an advantage, the results are as follows:

Surprisingly, the Ryzen 3 3100 is faster than both the Core i3-9100 as well as the Core i5-9400 in the single-threaded benchmark. Things lineup as expected in the multi-threaded test, however, with the Ryzen 3 3300X leading, followed by the 9400 and the 3100.

In the rest of the CC tests, both the new Ryzen 3 chips come out on top, with the Core i5 occasionally announcing its presence. Regardless, these benchmarks are more for reference. I’d be interested in seeing how these chips compare to the newer 10th Gen i3s that feature hyperthreading.
