AMD Releases Initial Linux Driver Support for AMD Ryzen 5000 APUs

AMD has released the initial Linux driver support for the upcoming Ryzen 5000 APUs, with the codename “Green Sardine”. It’s unclear whether Green Sardine refers to Lucienne or Cezanne as both architectures will reportedly power the Ryzen 5000 APU lineup. The former is a simple refresh with higher frequencies while the latter will use the Zen 3 core architecture instead of Zen 2. (elcpinellas.org) The integrated graphics will be based on Vega for both designs.

The new patch treats the Green Sardine platform under existing Renoir family code paths but the principal code differences are for loading different firmware files on the Green Sardine versus Renoir. There aren’t any other major changes with the Green Sardine code sent out today and as already explained, it still uses a Vega GPU. As such, it could either be Cezanne or Lucienne.

The patches can be found on the amd-gfx mailing list. (Via)
