AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX AIB Cards to Cost More than MSRP: Reference Models Allegedly Selling at Loss?

Additional information about AMD’s Radeon RX 7900 series graphics cards has come to the fore. As reported earlier, the reference launch has been canceled in China due to some “difficulties in Taiwan“. Consequently, the board partner model launch has been preponed to 14th December. Unfortunately, channel inventory is expected to remain lean both in and outside China, leading to scalping and overpricing.

Furthermore, the source claims that the reference variants of the Radeon RX 7900 series are sold at a loss, or the very least, with minimal revenue margins. Board partners, however, will be selling their offerings at a premium to maintain a positive margin. Don’t be surprised if AIB Radeon RX 7900 XT variants start at $900 and the 7900 XTX at $1,100.

Update: There is no concrete evidence that the Radeon RX 7900 series will be sold at a loss, but the profit margins will be slimmer than the RTX 4080.

Meanwhile, sources close to Igor Wallossek have informed him that many major AIB partners (both exclusive and non-exclusive) have delayed their Radeon RX 7900 series launch by at least a week. Widespread availability isn’t expected until New Year’s.

According to another source, the RDNA 3 GPUs suffer from serious driver issues, including memory leads that may adversely affect performance and visual fidelity and lead to freezing.
