AMD Expected to Hold 20% of Mobile Market by the End of 2020

As per Digitimes research, AMD’s notebook market share is going to expand to 20% by the end of 2020. This is the result of AMD increasing the Renoir shipments by as much as 3x after OEMs started complaining that they were having supply issues with the higher-end Ryzen 7 parts. This isn’t really all that surprising (or impressive for that matter) as AMD already had control of around 16% of the total notebook market by the end of last year.

In its last investor presentation, AMD revealed that by the end of 2019, it had 85 models from OEM partners such as Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo, with the company promising more than 135 in 2020. Looking at the sheer number of Renoir laptops on the market at the moment, it’d be fair to say that AMD has already met that goal.

Interestingly, Digitimes reports that a major chunk of these gains has come from the sales of Chromebooks aimed at school/college students, most of whom have now shifted to a study-from-home model, mandating the use of notebook PCs.
