AMD CEO to be the Second Person of Chinese Origin to Win the Robert N. Noyce Award

The American Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) has announced that it will be conferring the prestigious Robert N. Noyce award to none other than AMD CEO, Dr. Lisa Su. After TSMC founder, TSMC founder Morris Chang, Su is the second person of Chinese origin to get this coveted award.

The American Semiconductor Industry Association is going to hold a ceremony in Washington on the 19th of November 19 to formally grant the award to Dr. Su, affirming her contribution to the semiconductor industry.

Dr. Su was born in Tainan (a city in South Taiwan) in 1969. At the age of 3, she moved to the United States with her father Su Chunhuai. After getting obtaining a bachelor’s, master and doctorate degree in electrical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), she joined Texas Instruments (TI), followed by the International Business Machines Corporation (IBM).

Finally, Dr. Su joined AMD in 2012 as the senior VP and was promoted to President and CEO of the company in Oct 2014. Since then, she has brought back AMD from the verge of bankruptcy to being one of the leading CPU designers, challenging Intel in every market from mobile to servers.

AMD’s latest Zen 3 CPUs are going to be announced on the 3rd of October, followed by the RDNA 2 graphics cards on the 28th. Both next-gen and previous generation consoles were also based on AMD’s architectures. These wins can be primarily attributed to Dr. Su’s leadership and vision for the company.
