AMD Brings FidelityFX Graphics Suite to Xbox Series X|S

AMD’s FidelityFX open-source visual technologies suite is now officially available on the Xbox platform, allowing developers to use them in cross-platform titles with relative ease. More than 40 PC games are presently using FidelityFX including Godfall, Detroit: Become Human, Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, Borderlands 3, Hitman 2, etc. For the time being, three key technologies will be available for use on the Xbox platform. These are Contrast Adaptive Sharpening (CAS), Variable Shading (VRS), and ray-traced shadow denoiser.

While CAS is simply a contrast-based sharpening shader, Variable Shading leverages the DX12 API to allow easy integration of tile-based variable shading rates. The shadow denoiser is a shadow mask that reduces noise in the case of ray-traced shadows when using a limited ray count from a single light source:
