Board partners, especially the big three are having a pretty decent time with graphics card sales despite crashing prices all around. According to Chinese media, major VGA vendors including ASUS, Gigabyte, and MSI are primarily focusing on AMD’s Radeon RX 6000 GPUs. The sharp price drops paired with the growing demand have resulted in continued growth despite the steep discounts.
At the time of writing, the RDNA 2 flagship is going for just $699, 30% lower than its launch MSRP of $999 and the early market price of $2,500. Although revenue isn’t quite what it was during the cryptocurrency boom, GPU vendors aren’t worried about sales of existing graphics cards. The second quarter sales figures are expected to be largely similar to Q1 and Q3 shouldn’t deviate much from the predicted figures either.
The fact that NVIDIA decided to resume the production of the RTX 3080 12GB is a clear indication of this. NVIDIA’s Q2 (Gaming Business) dropped by 44% on account of the excess inventory and the third quarter figures might be similar. Going by this report, it looks like AMD and NVIDIA have stepped in to absorb the losses incurred due to the flooding of retail channels.
