AMD is all set to launch its first consumer processor with 3D stacked “V-Cache” next month. The Ryzen 7 5800X3D will stack an L3 cache die atop the CCD of the 5800X, increasing the overall cache to a whopping 100MB. We’re talking about 32+64MB of L3 cache, and 4MB of L3 cache. The CPU cores will be clocked a bit lower, with the boost frequency scaled down to 4.5GHz, and overclocking won’t be disabled.
In terms of performance, compute and content-related workloads will perform largely the same. Gaming and other memory-sensitive workloads will see a substantial boost in performance, with AMD’s official figures showing a 15% gain on average, and up to 40% in favored titles:
The Ryzen 7 5800X3D, like the rest of the Ryzen 4000 and 5000 series processors will be compatible with all AM4 motherboards released in the last 5 years. Support for the 300-series boards, including the A320 chipset, has been officially confirmed. The AGESA version enabling this will land alongside the CPU on the 20th of April.
