AIB Partners are Looking to Pair the RTX 30 Series GPU w/ Motherboards

The limited supply of NVIDIA’s RTX 30 series graphics cards is presenting board partners with a unique opportunity. Although the new graphics cards are supposed to hit retail on the 17th of September, very few people will be able to grab a unit anytime soon. As a result, major OEMs including ASUS, Gigabyte, and MSI are taking advantage of this shortage and coming up with motherboard-graphics card bundles. Most of the Eastern OEMs are pairing the new GPUs with their motherboards to boost mainboard sales. With AMD’s next-gen Ryzen 4000 CPUs coming next month, many users will be looking to get a new mobo anyway, so this should prove useful for many.

The motherboards in these bundles include the Intel Z490 and AMD’s X570 and B550 boards. However, for consumers just looking to buy a new graphics card, this will make it even harder to get hold of NVIDIA’s latest products. The supply issues are expected to last till the holiday season. By December, stocks should be back in strength, right in time of Christmas. AMD’s RDNA 2 graphics cards (RX 6000 series) should also be available by then, giving consumers even more options to choose from.

It’s unclear what the reason behind the extremely short supply is but sources claim it’s due to the uncertainty in yields with Samsung’s 8nm node. The RTX 3080 and 3090 also use the newer GDDR6X memory in addition to much more powerful VRMs, PCBs, and other ICs driving them. This is likely another reason why supply is so limited. As NVIDIA’s semiconductor partners ramp up production of these new components and yields become more certain, supply should improve.
