A Look at the Upcoming iPhone 14

The iPhone 13 has been out for nearly a year now, which means that the rumor mill is in full swing, wondering what the iPhone 14 will be like. Apple usually releases new technology twice a year, around the months of April and September. With September only a few months away now, the iPhone 14 will already be close to production so it’s a great time to look at some of the rumored new features and what we can expect it to look like.

How Many iPhone Models Will There Be?

Apple often releases multiple iPhones at the same time – with the iPhone 11 we saw the Class 11 and the 11 Pro. Rumour has it that the iPhone 14 release will also see multiple iPhone models. This time it’s said to be four models, although there won’t be a mini model this time as Apple has decided to discontinue smaller phones. Whether you’re planning on using your phone for work, mobile gaming or simply to have fun on Slingo sites, the iPhone 14 looks set to be an incredible piece of tech!

How Will It Look?

The iPhone 12 saw a dramatic redesign; after years of a sleek rounded-edge design, Apple chose to go back to its roots with a new casing that harked back to the iPhone 5 era. With such a dramatic design change only a few models back, it’s likely that the iPhone 14 will be very similar in design.

Having said this, there are a few changes. After years of complaints about the camera notch in the screen, Apple is apparently finally getting rid of it! Instead, rumors have ranged from a small pill-shaped cut-out to just the lens on the screen. The bezels are also likely to be a little thinner with this model, but other than that it’ll be fairly similar to the iPhone 13.

Colour is something we’ve seen Apple play with a few times over the years, bouncing between basic golds and silvers, to bright colors like red, green, and yellow. Leaks have suggested that the iPhone 14 could be a mix of the two, with at least one of the models being available in the standard black, silver, gold, and grey as well as lilac.

What Hardware Improvements Will We See?

Apple improves the iPhone cameras with every model, even if it’s only by a fraction. The iPhone 13 ushered in “Cinematic Mode” and rumors are suggesting that we’re likely to see some new features in the iPhone 14 model too, although no one is quite sure what they are yet.

Ming- Chi Kuo, a well-respected Apple analyst, believes that the new iPhone could see a 48-megapixel wide camera, which will allow the iPhone to record in 8K definition. The camera is likely to have an aperture of F1.9 and a larger sensor, which will improve low light capabilities no end.

Will the new iPhone be Faster?

One of the most consistent rumors surrounding the new iPhone 14 release is that the Pro version will contain a new A16 chip, while the less pricey models will have the A15 chip from the iPhone 13 generation. The differences between the Pro and standard models don’t end there either. The Pro model is rumored to have 8GB of RAM, while the other models will have the same 6GB that the iPhone 13 has.

The new iPhone 14 models are also likely to be faster when receiving data. The iPhone 14 models are all rumored to ship with the Qualcomm Snapdragon X65 modem, which is the first 10 gigabit 5G modem in the world. This will bring support for 5G and Wi-Fi 6E, as well as having lower power consumption which could lead to better battery life.

Other Updates

Apple added a new 1TB storage option when introducing the iPhone 13, but rumors are suggesting that the iPhone 14 could offer a much-improved 2TB version.

In addition to this, there are rumors that the iPhone 14 will ship without a physical SIM. In countries that support ESIMs, iPhones will no longer have a physical SIM card slot. Having said this, a similar rumor surfaced for the iPhone 13 and that never happened.

There are a huge number of rumors that surface for every iPhone release. Some are more plausible than others, and sometimes Apple delivers a real surprise. There are only a few months to wait now, and fans of the brand are already getting excited to pre-order!

What Will Future iPhones Have?

As our technological demands evolve, mobile phones are starting to do more and more in terms of what they offer, what technology they include and what their capabilities are. Although it is impossible to say for sure what the future iPhone will look like, we do know that Apple is a brand that wants to stay ahead of the competition and therefore will be doing everything it can to offer more each time a new phone is released. One of the biggest changes we have seen with the iPhone over the years is a change in the size of the handset – back in the early 2000s it was trendy to have a handset that was as small as possible (anyone remember the Nokia 8210?) but this changed and now we have handsets that are getting bigger – largely driven by the fact that people want to use their mobile phones to do more & more. Of course, there is only so big a mobile phone can go before it becomes too big to be considered a phone, but for sure we’re likely to see some changes to handset size with iPhone in the future. This shows in the release of the iPhone 14, where the size of the handset is something that designers have clearly taken into account. People want to use their phones to watch films, video chat, play games and even do work and as such, screen size is something that many people see as really important and in most cases, bigger is most certainly better.
