16 Core Intel Core i9-12900K Beats 32 Core AMD Threadripper and Ryzen 9 5950X in Cinebench R23

Intel’s 12th Gen Alder Lake-S flagship, the Core i9-12900K has been spotted in a Cinebench R23 run. The sixteen-core processor performed remarkably, beating its nearest AMD rival, the Ryzen 9 5950X by a healthy margin. Furthermore, it managed to overcome the 32 core Threadripper 2990WX by nearly a thousand points. The 12900K is 70% faster than the previous top-ranked Intel consumer CPU, the Core i9-10900K (in Cinebench R23, excluding HEDT).

It’s worth noting that the 12th Gen flagship was tested on a Z690 Aorus Ultra motherboard with a boost clock of 5.3GHz and all 24 threads enabled. The memory used was DDR5-5200 (2,600 MHz) with the timings set to 38-38-83-121 (2T). The SKU features 30MB of L3 cache and supports PCIe Gen 5. Each of the high-performance Golden Cove cores is paired with 1.25MB of L2 and 48KB of L1 cache. For the Gracemont efficiency cores, we’re looking at two clusters of 2MB L2 cache (overall) and 32KB of L1 cache per core.

Intel’s 12th Gen Alder Lake-S processors are expected to launch sometime next month, starting with the higher-end K series (125W) SKUs.
