16 Core AMD Ryzen 9 7950X will Have a TDP of 170W, Load Power Draw of Over 200W?

AMD’s next-gen Ryzen 7000 “Zen 4” flagship will have a TDP of 170W, up from 105W on the Ryzen 9 5950X. The Ryzen 9 7950X despite being a 16 core, 32 thread part will have a stock power draw of 170W, and a boost power consumption of 225-255W. Meanwhile, its 12 core sibling, the Ryzen 9 7900X will have a base power draw of 105W and a boost consumption exceeding 125W.

This info was shared by Greymon55, a reputed leaker on future Ryzen/Radeon products. According to the insider, the Ryzen 7000 stack will consist of 65W non-X Ryzen chips, the 105W Ryzen 7 7800X and Ryzen 9 7900X, and the 120W Ryzen 9 7950X.

Going by this tweet, it seems that the next-gen Raphael processors will be limited to 16 cores at the top-end, pretty much retaining the core counts of existing Vermeer parts. This means that AMD may have a single-threaded/IPC lead over Intel’s rival Raptor Lake CPUs, but will almost certainly lag behind in multi-threaded workloads.

The Raptor Lake-S processors are going to double down on the efficiency core counts, bumping them from 8 to 16. Overall, the 13th Gen Core chips will have up to 24 cores and 32 threads with slight changes to the core architecture, possibly the memory subsystem.
